No kid is going to know what a carburetor is these days. And having moved South prior to getting my license, I’d never heard of carburetor icing. Was that actually a thing?
It’s been so long since I’ve flown a plane, I don’t even remember exactly what carburetor icing is. Though I do remember what a carburetor is, so if I accomplish nothing else with this little essay, I’ve established that I am very very old.
I do remember that the very concept of carburetor icing was terrifying. Not that I couldn’t land a Cessna 150 that lost power. Shoot, their glide ratio wasn’t a whole lot different from my first hang glider. (Nor, it sometimes seemed, was their weight.) But just like Richard Nixon was brought down not by the Watergate burglary itself but by his efforts to distance himself from it, I wasn’t scared of ditching in a field nearly as much as the idea of having to explain to someone that I just landed a plane someplace that wasn’t an airport.
What I’m saying is, it’s not the rime, it’s the owning-up.

If he can’t remember, I’d be concerned about a mild concussion. Not a lot of danger, unless they were iceballs or had a rock in one…

He should take a break, and have something to drink like a nice Rime Lickey.

Not a snowball fight… more like a firing squad. Ruthless schoolyard justice was involved here.
