I never knew the reason for cowbells until I visited the Pyrenees mountains on vacation. One minute I was standing by the side of a narrow mountain top road watching some cows grazing on the other side, the next minute a heavy fog rolled in and I literally couldn’t see the other side. The cows became invisible and only the sound of their bells indicated where they were.
