I’m looking forward to March 30 and the end of college basketball for the year. Oops, wait, its now April foolishness as colleges, corporations, etc have found a way to extend the exploitation. When does the term March Madness get retired?
The athletes get hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships, they are not unpaid. The universities make money to support their primary purpose – education. These are not professional sports teams where the profit is the final goal.
If everything that could be known about the big football and basketball factories, and the NCAA actually enforced its own rules, would any teams be eligible for bowl games, the playoffs, or the tournament? No. Is there a better system than sports programs loosely attached to colleges? Yes.
Compare to Canadian Junior Hockey and Lacrosse. The pay isn’t excessive, but does help save for college. And participants have to keep their grades up.
