Hagar, Prince Valiant (though only on Sunday) and Andy Capp are all in my newspaper, as is Funky Winkerbean (everybody’s grown up). Tank McNamara is in my mom’s newspaper In the Sunday paper, whereas Gil Thorp is in the Sports section there every day). Most strips live on. Bucky Katt in my paper ’s dailies are 10 years old, with a new one on , you guessed it, Sunday. Doonesbury only runs on Sunday.
It’s only a true zombie if the strip is in perpetual repeats with no new material. Think “Peanuts”. Kudos to Cathy Guisewite for refusing to rerun “Cathy”.
When I started this storyline last week, I had one reader who told me he was going to start one of those online petitions to get me hired as the new writer for “Nancy.” I said that since I preferred Jerry Scott’s interpretation of the strip to Guy’s, readers wouldn’t want me writing it.
I said if he wanted to start a petition to get one going to Pete Kelly and John Glynn to hire me to write a new webcomic revival of “Pogo.” But I have a sneaking suspicion that due to family ties, Mark Evanier would get tapped for the job instead of me if they ever were to try bringing it back again.

Prince Valiant is not a zombie strip. Still running, with fresh weekly strips, 80 years on.

I was thinking more like a comic strip Dunkirk. And Snuffy Smith is still running as well. (Now, Barney Google, on the other hand…)
