Caulfield seems to have reached the brat stage. He is even arguing with Frazz. Usually their conversations are more philosophical. But, every kid has times where he/she just has to let go at the world. Afterward, they often become more amenable to requests for past due work and tend to walk carefully among the stares of those who witnessed the outburst.
It’s time for Caulfield to notice that Frazz is not on his side with this one.And it is also a risky thing to have your grade be determined by someone you are treating disrespectfully.
“I’ll get my worksheet done when I get it done.” I sure hope he doesn’t think that will translate into “I’ll get my work done when I get it done” when he enters the workforce, unless he wants to be unemployed. Even if he starts his own business, his products or services will have to be of good quality and on time or he won’t have a business for long. And I am definitely NOT among those who think this strip would be boring without Caulfield. In fact, I find Caulfield’s constant “rebel without a cause” attitude boring and tiresome.
Does Caulfield have any friends besides Frazz? Come to think of it, do any of the kids at this school? Maybe we just don’t get to see them interact much because that would draw attention away from the grown-ups.
I’m sure Mallett knows he’s jumped the shark with this one. I’d love to know his reasoning. Perhaps this is an arc in which Caulfield learns an important lesson???

Caulfield will make a terrible co-worker someday

I still don’t understand how anything about this obnoxious little creep is the least bit funny.

I like the little creep, but I don’t understand why the brightest kid in school is holding out—- unless this is one of his puns— as Holden Caulfield.

The older I get the less I like Caulfield. I’ve reached curmudgeon-dom.

Agree with most comments, Mr. Mallett; Time to pull back on Caulfield’s snarkiness.

“It’s a risky thing, basing your happiness on someone else’s actions.” March Madness teaches this lesson every year.

Remember this Frazz, inaction is actually an action.

Sounds like the lines from The Agony and the Ecstacy"
Pope: “When will you make an end of it?”
Michelangelo: “When I am finished!”

I have met several kids with this same attitude. And a few adults as well.
