Ah the beloved cruciferous veggie, Brussels Sprout, they are a delicious side when lightly sauteed in olive oil with a few cloves of garlic. Trick is to keep the fresh crispness and not allow them to get soggy as they do when most folks boil them to death. Same goes for asparagus. Spinach sauteed is great, but raw as a salad green is superb.
No. Cruciferous vegetables are not delicious. If they taste good to you, it is due to a genetic quirk that prevents you from experiencing what they actually taste like to most human beings. Go ahead and enjoy them, but be aware that doing so is like enjoying the smell of a skunk (as some people do) or the sound of fingernails on a blackboard.

Too big a gap between it and the gray matter?

Once you grow up you can ditch the sprouts.

Nope, Brussel sprouts should be roasted. Not boiled or steamed, but roasted with a bit of butter when the leaves open up.

Just smother them in sour cream and bacon

Ummm, love Brussels sprouts. Just a bit of butter and salt and they’re fine. And yeah, kid you need to keep your yap shut.
