Let’s see: ravaged by diseases brought by whites, dispossessed of land by whites, watching every treaty ever made with whites turn out to be a pack of lies, force-marched over the Trail of Tears by whites, forced onto reservations by whites, children forcibly separated from parents by whites—and this white comic strip artist thinks Grandfather’s troubling visions of the future were about parking meters. What a perfect example of how whites experience history!

This strip’s grandfather reminds me the one in the old Dustin Hoffman movie “Little Big Man”; it was a sympathetic look at American Indians years before “Dances with Wolves.” Also, an astonishing film displaying Dustin as he plays a 100-year-old-plus man (when Dustin was 33) recalling his life and encounters, including several with General Custer. Highly, highly recommended.
