Rewriting history is a gross injustice to understanding the challenges, mistakes made, and successes that lead a people to who and where they are today. Recently read the American Library Association’s long-standing Laura Ingalls Wilder children’s book award has been dropped/renamed because “…those stories sometimes reflected the era’s prevailing attitudes about blacks and Native Americans, particularly the hatred and fear between settlers and natives.” So we just expunge whatever it is that might offend someone of today’s world — which leaves everything a potential target. This could lead to, down with the Washington Monument! He forced his unprepared men to endure famine, sickness, and frigid weather, conditions which threatened and killed many during the Revolutionary War.
