I believe California would have passed on summer this year if they had known what was coming. Prayers for the firefighters and the folks who already have faced the flames and those who still may.
When friends in Edmonton were teased about it being winter all year there (which it isn’t), they’d reply: no, summer here is beautiful, and especially nice when it happens on a weekend.
Summers in Northern Alberta are truly beautiful. My previous snark about mosquitoes often holds true only in the evening. But for all hours in the shade of the forest …
In Mesquite, Nevada, 80 miles from Vegas, where I live, it’s been 110-plus every day for the last month or so. The hottest summer I’ve ever experienced. I haven’t gone to the usual outdoor activities I go to every year (like this weekend’s county fair in St George, Utah, 40 miles from here, because of the heat. Phooey.

Meanwhile, tomorrow night is supposed to be the peak of the Perseid meteor shower, with tonight almost as good.
Step outside; forget the construction; and watch the stars fall. 8^)
