I would not even put “Swift Response” on the prayer list at the London, Preston, or any of the international temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

I would have prayed for the horse to win. If it wins, Andy might go to church more often. If it loses nothing lost.

Tell the vicar the Sunday races are a form of tithing. It’s worth a try.

What’s the difference between a church and a poker game? In the poker game the praying is sincere.

Five will get you ten Andy’s horse would have lost anyway.

Three horses I remember betting on ( and losing, of course !) were Holy Smokes, Church Key and a nag called St. Swiftend ( the end that was swift … wasn’t! ).

I have known some very religious people who’ve had vices that are severely frowned upon.

What gets me is his unmitigated gall in always looking for an angle that precludes other people’s needs.
