Many things done “Old School” do not seem proper by today’s standards but they worked ;-)

Not the right enzyme, huh? Any stool checker can tell you that.

…to break down ALL corn. Our bodies (or deer bodies, whomever is eating said corn) can use and absorb some kernels. However, individual kernels of corn have different chemical makeup, causing some to be absorbed in the digestion process and others to pass through to be deposited elsewhere, conveniently in the middle of a pile of……fertilizer

If humans couldn’t break down corn, there would be zero calories. I believe we cannot break down the hulls ( I think that’s what the outer cover’s called).

Our bodies can’t break down corn? Gee, you don’t say. That was obvious, Ripley. That’s why it shows up in the toilet later.

This is why those who fear GMOs are so funny!: Today’s corn has evolved from the Aztec version that required processing with lye before eating.

More precisely our bodies can not process the outer pericarp (the cellulose that encases each kernel of maize), once that is removed the inner portion of the kernel is extremely nutritious as it is primarily composed of starch (62%), protein and fiber (19%), water (15%), and oil (4%).

Pigs and cows can’t properly digest whole corn kernels, either.
