There once was a girl named Kat./Who had three boys named Nat, Pat, and Tat./’Twas fun in the breeding but hell in the feeding./When she found there was no Tit for Tat.
The title given in English-language sources is “Motherland.” Bouguereau called it “Alma Parens”, “Soul of Motherhood”. Either way, it’s about as obnoxious a male fantasy as one might expect. Here’s the skinny on the Latin word “parens”:

It seems that this painting is now in a private collection. According to an article at http://www.artnet.com/magazine_pre2000/news/jeromack/jeromack11-18-98.asp, Sly Stallone owned it and sold it in 1998 at a Sotheby’s auction for a $2.6 million. Not bad for a painting described by the journalist as “an unfortunately jumbled composition showing a succession of plump toddler bottoms”.
There’s an essay on the artist and his times that goes into unusual depth at http://www.nccsc.net/essays/william-bouguereau-last-history-painter. Well worth reading.

all have info, or links that point to more info, about this artist, perhaps in addition to what’s pointed to by the title URL. So far, 15 works (16 times, including 1 repeat) by him have been used here.
