Some men may be drama kings when they have a cold. The rest of us power through it. When I am seriously sick (72 hour stomach virus, for instance), I cocoon and don’t want to be fussed over. The more I sleep the sooner the illness will be gone.
My theory is that men refuse to accept illness until they are ready to collapse from it. At that point, they feel so bad, it does feel like they are dying. A woman, however, when she gets sick, she gets treatment, and it never gets a chance to be as bad as a man’s illness.
I saw my dad doing that all the time. If any of us got sick we had to make sure he didn’t find out. So now my wife has to tie me down to get me to stay home when I am sick.

That is certainly a stereotype that I haven’t found to be real. A certain (ex) woman in my life was a real catastrophizer with her illnesses.

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
