How sad. I just realized that the reverend Croom has a really wrong NT theology. All of Christendom will accept that our Lord at least accepted his fate, come what may or that he planned his own death in accord with the almighty. He had taught his disciples that no greater love has a man than that he give up his life for his friends. He fulfills that teaching by his death. But, for the reverend to feel that it’s all just a crap shoot, that Jesus just made a roll of the dice and lost, now, that’s sad.
At the very least, this episode in Jesus’ live gave him the opportunity to speak to the Roman world, first with Pontius Pilate and then with the troops of its legions. For a true believer, as Jesus was, that could’ve made it all worthwhile. Jesus’ death on the cross made him a martyr for his followers to rally around and launch a movement that would one day change the world. It looks to me like things turned out pretty well for Jesus and his ministry. Rev. Croom should be so….lucky.

If you live the perfect exemplary life they will hang you out to dry. It’s really hard to stay in character when that part comes.
