I remember people like him back when I was a kid. I often enjoyed engaging one in a vibrant discussion where I explained that he was so far from correct that…. I quit when I got older as I never convinced one to see things my way. I doubt any human could.

Never ran into that guy, but I’ve met his cousin at more than one mixer “party”. What’s bad enough sober is much worse when his inhibitions are reduced (as are my own).

And after Social Media, there will be Phil.

and hopefully nowadays & into the future, there will be no dear on the porch of such a god-of-his-own-making.

There are some people that cannot comprehend logic or truth. I finally learned to just agree with them and laugh about it. That lesson came in very handy when my mother developed dementia. I finally realized one day that she could no longer understand reasoning and to avoid trying to. That understanding of her mind helped us greatly when we finally had to make some very hard decisions.

Phil is modeling Buttercup’s mantra. Why bother with logic, when you can just rant and call names. Hasn’t changed since he was in kindergarten. Muriel, like the rest of us, is fighting a losing battle.

God, I remember when that was the only way for nuts to get their “revelations” to the world! Those were the “good olde days”! Now they’re everywhere, spreading their irrationality like a virus. The only defense is to raise your level of skepticism, which can be a problem in itself, if you come to disbelieve everything.

The best thing about social media is you can IGNORE it.

If you removed claims that were unsupported by reasons or evidence, most of the comments sections would be nearly empty. We have substituted name-calling for argument, of which trump is the apotheosis.

Our local town square has a number of “Phils,” or “Phillises.” One such accosted me on the sidewalk, demanding to know, “Have you FOUND JESUS?” I replied quietly, “Oh, I’m terribly sorry. I didn’t even know He was missing.” I’m pleased to say I escaped with my life.

It sounds like something for which there should be a vaccine. “Old-school influenza”?

Phil is like a lot of old guys…can’t accept change…gets mad over nothing…spends a lot of time fussing over stupid shit, while frittering away the little life he has left. In simpler terms, “A miserable old Fart.”

Sadly ironic that social media has made us more antisocial.

I wish I could strike out Phil’s name and replace it with Moscow Mitch.

I recently had to Drop one of my Facebook “Friends” because he was taking every comment where I disagreed with him as a Personal Insult.

It’s too bad. Some of the dicsussions were interesting until he began taking things Personally.
