I can recall when I was a sprat that I wanted desperately to be taller. I was a second child, and my brother was 7 years older. The rest of our family (mother, aunt, uncle, grandmother, grandfather) all were adults. Unfortunately, I also was the shortest kid in my class when I got into school (I started a year early). I was 14 before I was taller than my 4’ 10" grandmother, and thought I’d never make it to 5’. It was not until I hit age 16 that I shot up 6 inches that year, and then four more a year later, making me 5’ 10". When I was 20, I added another 2 inches to that, and finally then was done. But when I was 6, I was fed up with being the ‘shrimp’, so I know just how she feels.
My son was the same way. Contrast that to my grandson, who was taller than me by age 13. He’s now 15, and all but an inch as tall as my 6’ 3" son. If he puts on another growth spurt between 16 and 17 (and he probably will), he’ll be taller than my son.
