A viable nominee is something the GOP should be wishing for.

    By Judge Andrew P. Napolitano

    ~

Whether one agrees with federal law or not, it is a crime to solicit assistance for a federal campaign from a foreign government. As well, the crime of bribery consists of a government official refraining from performing a legal duty until a thing of value is delivered to him.

Trump admits he held up the $391 million. He admits he asked for a favor from the Ukrainian president. And he admits that the favor was to dig up dirt on Joe Biden and his son. He even gilded the lily by publicly asking the Chinese government to investigate Biden.

Enter Attorney General William Barr. After knowledge of the presidential holdup of the $391 million in aid to Ukraine became public, the president asked Barr for a formal legal opinion that dirt on a political opponent is not a thing of value.

Barr had his researchers and writers in the Office of Legal Counsel oblige. That legal opinion, which Trump has touted as a form of exoneration, has been so widely mocked in legal and political circles – because dirt on an opponent is the most valuable commodity for a political campaign, and candidates pay dearly for it – that congressional Republicans have stopped referring to it. They know better.

And No, Trump is never going to apologize for his “Perfect Call”…

    ~

Trump’s best bet is to just apologize now for Ukraine scandal

By Jonah Goldberg (editor at National Review)

A plain reading of the rough transcript of a phone call between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy supports the charge.

So does testimony from the top US diplomat in Ukraine, William Taylor, as well as several other Trump appointees and aides, including Tuesday’s testimony from Alexander Vindman, a National Security Council staffer who listened to the phone call.

There’s still due diligence to be done, but it seems implausible they are all lying.

Common sense also works against the president.

If Trump were sincerely concerned about Ukrainian corruption, why has he never expressed similar concerns about corruption anywhere else?

And why, if the issue is Ukrainian corruption, did Team Trump focus on the alleged corruption of a single Ukrainian firm, Burisma, where Biden’s son Hunter sat on the board?

Conservative Attorney Group Slams Trump’s AG: ‘Bill Barr Has Grossly Mischaracterized and Subverted’ IG Findings

    https://www.newsweek.com/conservative-attorney-group-slams-trumps-ag-bill-barr-has-grossly-mischaracterized-subverted-1476515?

On its website, the organization describes its members as “a group of attorneys who would traditionally be considered conservative or libertarian.”

“Bill Barr has grossly mischaracterized and subverted the findings of the IG investigation report addressing the FBI investigation into Russian interference in our 2016 election,” said Donald Ayer, a former deputy attorney general, former deputy solicitor general and former U.S. attorney, in his statement.

“The report’s headline findings are that the investigation was properly initiated based on a sound factual basis, and that the allegations of ‘witch hunt’ and bias on the part of those overseeing it are without foundation,” Ayer added.

Trump and his supporters have routinely described the investigations into his 2016 campaign as a “witch hunt.”

The attorney referred to Trump as Barr’s “client,” arguing that the president and the attorney general disregarded the independent inspector general’s findings because the “outcome he reaches is not the one desired” by the president.

Well, pick two out of three and get back to me. Impeachment is one thing, finding one guilty is another. Even that “conservative” radical Allan Dershowitz disagrees with Democrats evidence.
