That’s the whole idea. If don’t park in a garage the headlights lights up the house. Makes it easier getting inside.

Several ‘computers’ continue to run when parked. Leaving a modern well-equipped car in the garage for a week will drain your battery. Disconnect it and your radio will not work until you supply the password.

I have that option, but don’t use it. Finish listening to a song on the radio before I get out? That happens often! ;-)

If it’s a 50’s or 60’s song on the radio I will wait ‘til it’s done, usually singing along.

Um, 10 years ago, I checked on it after a few minutes, from the comfort of the house, a few times.

Automatic or not, I always turn them off. I keep a small torch on my house keys.

My dad had a car with that feature. One evening, he was walking across the parking lot, and a woman stopped him. “Father, you left your lights on.”

“Oh, dear. Thank you.” He turned around and made the sign of the cross in the direction of the car – and the lights went out. It was just a matter of timing, but he chuckled about it for days afterward.

Check them again an hour later to make sure that they didn’t come back on.

If you are that paranoid, then either don’t use the auto feature at all or quickly switch them off completely then turn it back to auto.
