Judging from Monet’s ‘Houses of Parliament’, with the boat on the left, in the background and the men’s jackets, they are probably in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC (if they were wearing more Florida-style clothing they’d be in the Museum of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg, FL).
Monet painted 19 known views of the Houses of Parliament (according to Wikipedia) with boats or no boats and with boats in different positions. He also did a lot of haystacks. I would like to see a painting of his with haystacks in a field in the foreground, instead of the Thames, and the Houses of Parliament rising behind them. Unfortunately Monet had zero sense of artistic mischief.
I see that the guy on the right finished his walk in the country yesterday and came right down to NYC to go to the museum today. Possibly also the guy on the left.
Delightful that Bliss didn’t show the painting being subjected to tone-deaf formal analysis, while beautifully rendering the landscape painting behind them. The eye of the beholder is ours in this case.
