working at a grocery store, I still get my pay cheque mostly gathering carts in the parking lot brought back indoors at the entrance… rain, shine, snow, whatever the weather will be

Being a daily "Sod – Pounder " (Walker) one has to deal with the weather every day . My paycheck is keeping the pain from coming back … in my back ;-)

I was a walking mailman. The weather didn’t matter.

About the only time my paycheck depended on the weather was when a storm took out the electricity and the datacenter went on the backup diesel.

Thank you for doing that, and you can thank geezers like me who insure you have plenty of that to do! (But sometimes I bring one into the store myself).

Grew up working outdoors. Tried an indoor job for 14 months. Happiness is working outdoors, regardless of the weather.

Nope. Pluggers can and do just about everything that needs to be done, indoors or outdoors.

You’re a Plugger if it’s Miller time because you got the day off.

You’re a plugger if you plan on such days and have a rainy day fund and an inside second job or a way to adapt to have an indoor job. And good weather forecasts, not just one, but several.

One of my former students collects carts. He’s paid salary. However, he’s the one that gets the carts back to the store. When he’s not working, it’s obvious.

Bad weather is always a good reason to take a day off(snowed in, flooded etc.).

Where I shop, the people who gather the carts are stockers when they are not returning carts. If enough people brought carts in with them, it would reduce their workload. They would still have jobs, and returning carts in bad weather is no fun.

I have to use a walker due to a previous broken back. A dollar store I frequent has a very nice ramp so that I don’t have to go up the stairs. However, some people leave their carts right at the top of the ramp, where I have to push them out of the way and squeeze through. I’m always grateful when an employee notices them and moves them, but they are very busy, so that doesn’t always happen. By the way, when I was able-bodied, I would also bring in a cart or two from outside to make sure I, and perhaps an elderly or disabled person, had a cart to shop with. I think it’s great that other people do that, and I doubt that it’s taking any money away from a worker! :-)
