Heart: You think I should give this ten dollars to charity? are you crazy, Dean? Dean: Look at it this way, Heart: it's money that you found...you didn't even know your had it! giving it away is not only a good deed, but it doesn't cost you anything! Heart: Christmas is over, Dean! I don't have to think about being good for at least six months! Dean: Santa, if you're watching, I'm not with her!

I think God would appreciate that she spent the money on herself, it’s far less selfish than the fat business man sitting in a mansion grinning as he slips that ten dollars into his wallet.

Spend it anywhere and it goes to the fat businessman

Miba: Actually, that guy in the mansion slipping the ten into his wallet is spending it on himself — it’s available for him to spend in the future, which he certainly will, unless his wallet just needs some extra ballast…doubtful. (Also doubtful: that God appreciates “Woo hoo! I got mine!” selfishness on anyone’s part.)
And for the record, caseva77, that “fat businessman” is doing you a service, and earning his money…he makes something that you want available to you, by buying it from somewhere else and selling it to you here. He’s using his own time and effort to do that, and taking a risk that you won’t buy it after all, and he’ll be stuck with it. If you do buy it, it’s because whatever-it-is is worth more to you than keeping your money in your wallet. Buying it was your free choice, so what do you have to complain about? That you couldn’t get it for free? Please.
Very few businessmen are fat and live in a mansion, you know. Most live hand-to-mouth, just like everyone else. We notice those very few only because they are exceptions.

This is not the strip I got in my gocomics email today.
(Re some of the comments: Americans once admired businessmen, but over a century of anti-business, anti-capitalist propaganda has taken its toll. A recent Time magazine issue debated whether America’s greatest days are past. If they are, it will be largely because of this attitude and its political consequences.)
