I would have kept the money, but given her a way to earn it back, or maybe a little more. As an example…“Make my coffee and bring it to me every morning for the next 4 days, and I will give you a dollar”. Or, “Change Baby Nick’s diaper once for me, and I will give you $10.00, and buy you an ice cream.” To do otherwise would be to enable her and feed her addiction, and she learns nothing.
The lesson here is “happy wife happy life” well done grasshopper. Katy will have plenty of opportunity to learn hard lessons never fear. Besides she might be a little young to be hanging that kind of guilt on her. Maybe teacher how to be a gracious winner.
When I was about twelve years old, my Dad gave me a lesson about gambling. He taught me how to shoot craps. When I inevitably lost, I did NOT get my money back. It was a valuable lesson that I appreciate to this day. (Maybe not at the time, but through all the 63 years since.)

Adam, you knew this had to be. Think of it as swapping for ‘brownie’ points.

If Adam won Katy’s the quarters, how much did Laura lose?

Ah yes. The lesson learned has been unlearned. When will it be learned again?
Hopefully she’ll save that bank roll for a rainy day.

Just what is she going to learn from that?

I would have kept the money, and she said she would have told me to give it back

Some times lessons are inexpensive but still painful. Even for the trainer.

Laura, I assure you, having a gambling addict in the family will NOT be anywhere near as much fun as you seem to think.

Just let Katie earn them back by doing some (extra) chores.
