The best comment I read (wish it were my own): “The church is not empty; it’s deployed.”
The church is not a building – it’s the community that temporarily gathers in a place they call a mosque, synagogue, temple, chapel, church, cathedral or meeting hall on Friday night, Saturday or Sunday or whenever as their beliefs lead them. They should not stop ceasing to be a church when they leave the physical space.
My takeaway from today’s Gospel comes from Mary Magdalene who was so consumed with her own problems that she did not recognize the Lord until he spoke to her, called her by name and she turned to look at Him.
How many people do we see every day and think of them as mere gardeners? Do we really look at them? Do we really listen to them?
Maybe it is as simple as coming to a railroad crossing where we are advised to Stop, Look and Listen. God might be trying to get our attention.

If you can’t have huge, crowded services, there’s no Easter?

Well, Christ’ death paid Adam’s price; his resurrection was his reward.
