For those of you who do not understand today’s comic I will explain it.
I assume you have a basic understanding of the Garfield universe, so I will not be explaining it.
Today’s comic takes place in a room with a dark blue chair, a tv stand, and a tv, with a light yellow wall. This repeats for all 3 panels.
The first panel shows Garfield sitting, watching tv. The tv plays “Greetings! we are yarn balls. We come in peace.”. The second panel shows Garfield with his eyes wide open and and the tv stating, “Wait… where have we landed?”, with another dialog bubble “Purr…”. The third panel shows Garfield now sitting in his chair, excited, and the tv now saying “Oh, no! planet of the cats!”, with another dialog bubble “Purr purr”. Now Garfield finally says “Bat ’em! Bat ’em! Bat ’em!”.
That’s just the setup for the comic, not the joke. I will now explain the joke in this comic. The joke is yarn balls have landed on the planet of cats. But cats enjoy batting yarn balls, so naturally for a yarn ball it’s not a good idea to be on the planet of cats. So cats wanting to bat the yarn balls by instinct, bat the yarn balls around, and that, is the joke. Truly hilarious, Jim Davis is just a master of the art.

Must be Garfields favorite show. Just as fun as playing with a real yarn ball but without having to do the work!

Do they come in peace, with strings attached?

Could have been worse. The aliens could have landed near a nursing home for little old knitters.

Those cats had best be careful. Just because they come in peace does not mean they don’t have defensive weapons and to spare.

Welcome to the planet “Meowter”, a portmanteau of meow and Jupiter! It is basically the first animal planet outside Pluto. #haha :)
