Thank goodness I had passed the age limit when the jury questionnaire arrived in the mail. With my short attention span, anything that just lasts longer than a couple of hours is a drag and I need a book or x-word puzzle for company. I hear they frown on that.
There is a lot of negativity being expressed here about jury duty. I’ll offer up a more positive view. I served on a Grand Jury years ago, half a day weekly for about 2 months. Yes, pay was poor for the time I spent there, but parking was free. I did get paid leave from my civil service job. I found it fascinating to see the wheels of justice turning up close. The DA came in, made his case, and then we debated the case to decide whether to send it up for a trial. We were just a bunch or ordinary citizens and most took an interest in what we were doing. I felt good to have an opportunity to fulfill a civic responsibility. Trial by jury is one of our basic rights which is not available to citizens in many other countries around the world. It’s up to us to do our bit, when called upon, to keep it going. To all you jury curmudgeons reading this, if you made it this far, you may now barf here:________________________!

I’ve never served on a jury. But I have gone in for the selection process.

Cruel and unusual punishment.

It certainly doesn’t pay here. Jurors are only paid $8 per day. Parking is $10. No fast food nearby, so lunch will cost $8 or much more.

If you’re ever on trial remember that you’re being judged by 12 people too dumb to get out of jury duty.

I’ve been on two juries. Both were somewhat interesting, but in stark contrast to the TV shows with the brilliant lawyers.

Should have been a sentence to customer service.
