    I was wondering if the cashier turned into a werewolf in the last panel before noticing that it was a completely different store.

    For years, I avoided the lottery

    Because I would probably lose.

    I then learned a much better reason:

    The jackpot is mostly bad news.

    I might enjoy wealth for a while

    But not know the way to invest

    A windfall beyond what I’m used to;

    My choices might not be the best.

    Most winners spend more than they ought to

    And run out of dough in two years.

    Perhaps it was fun while it lasted,

    But often it all ends in tears.

    And even the ones who save wisely

    Or donate to laudable drives

    Face greedy relations and strangers,

    Who might end up taking their lives.

    Oh, sometimes they find satisfaction;

    Guess that’s where the real gamble lies.

    I’d rather win nothing for nothing

    Than take a big chance on the prize.

    I grew up in Iowa which banned all gambling and fireworks. As I grew up, some low-yield fireworks were finally allowed. Now, at 78, I no longer recognize my natal state. All kinds of gambling is allowed. I don’t know what their fireworks laws are, since I left in the 60s.

    I figure my odds of winning the lottery are about the same as those who DO buy lottery tickets.

    As it is said, the lottery is a tax on those that never studied math…

    While overseas in a country where the local Lotto variant is a very big deal, I was told by my mentor that the lottery is the fool’s tax. Never bought a ticket there, nor here.

    Young Drac may perhaps be excused, and Dziva is probably just doing it to keep the kid happy, so she too may be excused….
