Stanford athletes from discontinuing sports will get to keep their scholarships, so they’re not exactly coming out of this with empty hands. A Stanford degree will take them a lot farther in life than having been the coxswain for the Cardinal rowing team.
There is no excuse for the existence of intercollegiate sports. The alumni who only donate to their schools because of the sports program need to be re-educated to understand that the purpose of the university has nothing to do with developing muscles.

Just in case any high dollar alum was worried about feetsball bball and bouncy ball, here’s the list:
men’s and women’s fencing, field hockey, lightweight rowing, men’s rowing, co-ed and women’s sailing, squash, synchronized swimming, men’s volleyball and wrestling.
