There’s no need to be playing the National Anthem anyway. Do they play the anthem at the start of the work day at Microsoft, Procter and Gamble, Apple, or General Motors?
If they’re going to play it with the fans in attendance, do it 10-15 minutes before the game — while the players are still in the locker room. Controversy averted.
Reportedly, the networks are going to add CGI “fans” to the broadcasts of both baseball and football games. A guaranteed sellout every game (in all senses of the word.)
You realize that this all started because the league a few years ago insisted that the players be out on the field when the anthem was played, right? This is not a long-standing NFL tradition. Everyone would indeed be happier if employers didn’t force employees to make a show of public patriotism above and beyond their job requirements.
