Back in the days before caller ID, I got a call and she went on and on about the free diamond necklace I won. I finally interrupted her and asked "At some point in this call are you going to ask me for my credit card? She hung up.
I used to think if I ever became disabled, I could always work in telephone sales. I’ve come to the realization that I’d rather stand at an intersection with a cardboard sign. I have my dignity after all!

Answer in German (etc), they’ll hang up on you.

Never answer, let it go to voicemail. About 1% of calls today are worth answering.
