Even taking Charlie 21 down through the hotel lobby is an adventure. He seems to have a hide-and-seek hobby besides his reading hobby. The guy asking for the time reminds me of Lafayette, but it’s not him.
A chance meeting with Abner will wipe that smile clean off Charles’s mug. Of all the audacity; to seek protection and then go off script.
It would be something if Charlie does get hit leaving the DA a real challenge in getting a conviction while the real focus of this story will be Kadaver and Tracy.
What was that movie where someone has to escort a snitch to a court date, and the guy keeps trying to run away? Turned out he had the stolen cash in a money belt? Like that.
Any idea why they are waiting so long to take a deposition? Usually a witness is being guarded before a trial (which may take months to set up). A deposition could have been taken 10 minutes after Charlie indicated a willingness to tell the truth…
Assuming Charlie is telling the truth…
Any chance our, “Gee whiz, you’re Dick Tracy! I’m so pleased to meet you!” has not turned on the Apparatus at all and this is some sort of overly elaborate plot?
Did Dick have this long, off screen conversation about the time
("Nice watch…Thanks, my wife Tess gave it to me, for our 25th anniversary….Tess, is that short for Theresa?….Why, yes, it is. Anyway, it’s half passed, gotta go!)
CHARLIE SNITCHIE: What has two thumbs and is ready to squeal on the Apparatus? THIS GUY!
2-CHARLIE: Look! I’m a mime in a box and I can’t get out! DT: Mime’s don’t talk.
3-GAY GENTLEMAN: Fabulous ensemble! Do you mind telling me where you got that?
DT: Thank you. I had it tailored for me at HEY! LOOKIT ME! tailors.
4-SAM: Doh dee doh. Say. Weren’t we guarding someone? DT: Ummm. DOH! I FORGOT! I MEAN – YOU IDIOT! YOU LET HIM GET AWAY!
5-CHARLIE: After I let those dolts find me, I think I’ll fake a heart attack! HA! Who said there was no fun in working as an accountant?!! Wait till I’m on the witness stand and I drop drawers to show ‘em my tattoo -
“Hello, all you hip cats and swingers out there in Tracyland! This is your smilin’ BMBG deejay, JPuzz the W, bringin’ you that blast from the past, by a band whose name inspired Tracyland!”
So, let me get this straight – we’re supposed to believe that the great DC and his very experienced side kick let Charlie 21 out of their sight and hide when Tracy’s and Sam’s sole job was to play babysitter to this case witness? Great detective work Dick and Sam!
What is not seen, or at least not shown to us:It is dead certain that Tracy and his unit have been informed of Rikki Mortis’ escape, and the circumstances of it.Meaning they have good cause to think that Abner Kadaver is back in town. They surmise, high confidence, that The Apparatus will attempt to whack Charlie 21. If they can add 2+2 they can guess that Abner has been hired as one (of possibly more) whackers.
Oh, fine! Tracyville’s two top detectives get distracted for not more than a couple of seconds and Charlie 21 gives them the slip.
Tracy and Sam should hang their heads in shame! If they weren’t so central to the strip, I might even have said they should resign from the force. What an embarrassment!
Meanwhile, what does Charlie propose to do nex? He doesn’t have a lot of friends out there….

Rikki does not waste her time. Trapped in a cage too long
Was sprung free as we can see. Sang loud a lover’s song.
Anticipation. Confirmation? Some news travels fast
A stork takes flight. It carries blight. The future soon the past.
Tracy now a bodyguard, takes Charlie under wing
Apparatus wants him dead because he plans to sing.
Was a time he juggled books. One for taxes one for real
Small fry bean-counter is no fool. To save his hide he’ll squeal.
Charlie looks after his interests. Crafty and conniving
Sam and Tracy look away. He hides as they’re arriving.

It’s not often that you can surprise Dick Tracy! Btw, that elevator shot reminds me of the scene in High Anxiety.

My vaccination card does not have any QR codes.
I did scan it in to send a pdf to my medical team so that they could see the lot number of the J&J shot and add it to my medical record.

Well for one who works for the apparatus, and is suppose to be an accountant, he’s a few fries short of a happy meal.

They didn’t even have to stay all night in a hotel room?
Time snailed by in the last story. It seems to be moving extremely fast in this one.

It’s not a good sign when storytellers have to rely on a character’s stupidity to build suspense.
