Golf is the most difficult sport to excel at. The game can be very frustrating, and is not good for your ego. And yet the game is wonderful. We all feel the excitement and pleasure when we do all and sometimes pull off a great shot. We can for a brief moment know how a professional player feels. In reverse it is good for us to see that they make mistakes and struggle sometimes as well in this great game.
to paraphrase mel brooks, tragedy is when you end up in the sand trap and the wind’s against you, comedy is when your partner puts several balls in the lake…
In England, I played on the college golf team. Our home course was in Sandwich, on the coast, and our matches were often played in just those conditions. It was much less sport than sheer torture.
