Not sure there’s anything Joe could do or say to change the kid’s opinion. The bad cops just make it harder for the good cops, especially when some of the good cops don’t do anything to get rid of the bad cops.

Oh yeah, showing up just because the kid told your son he’s scared of cops will TOTALLY help the situation… Way to snitch Jojo!

If the friend is being fed misconceptions at home, they will be hard to overcome. I used to keep some small, plush toys in my patrol car, for little ones who were frightened by events. They often helped.

No wait until the kids come back from camp.
