According to Merriam-Webster, a go-down is a warehouse in a country of southern or eastern Asia. Why that matters in Africa is an open question. It also has several other meanings: to go below the horizon, to fall to or as if to the ground, to become submerged, to admit of being swallowed (really), to find acceptance, to come to be remembered especially in posterity, to leave a university, to undergo defeat or failure, to take place. It is really a versatile word.
