I’m back! Sorry I Missed you all I was down for the count due to a painful migraine. Calvin in time you will hopefully find your answer until then just do what you do best.
The good ol’ “what is the meaning of life”. I think there are many different answers, depending on the person. One person may think they were put on Earth to serve God or some other religious reason, another would think its to live a day a time and appreciate life. I tend to lean towards the second one. Is Hobbes doing that on purpose?
Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
A why question is a question about intention. It presupposes that an intentional agent must exist. This assumption is unfounded. It’s a bias of our minds because we do things with intentionality. This is the origin of the illusion of a god. For the universe must be like us musn’t it? Such arrogance.
Theinquisitor: I’d rather believe that God created the universe than a human. Which is what you are saying. God isn’t like us- we are like God, which presupposes humility for us to accept that.
“From out my window I see the night,
And all the stars in their spendoring light,
Why are we here, Why do we exist, and Who is this in my head talking”?
“Inquisitor - You may want to take a look at the things you yourself are arrogantly presupposing.”
Which is what? That human beings are arrogant, biased and self-centered? We used to think the Earth was the centre of the universe until the evidence was forced down our throats. I think I’m justified in that assumption.
“Theinquisitor: I’d rather believe that God created the universe than a human. Which is what you are saying. God isn’t like us- we are like God, which presupposes humility for us to accept that.”
Is that what I’m saying? I’m saying that maybe the universe wasn’t created by an intentional agent like a human and you interpret that as me saying that a human made it. Yeah great reading comprehension.
And saying we are like god isn’t humble in the least. It doesn’t matter which way you order it.
EMET: What do you mean “earth is here to help the woman?”
God created us in his own image, male AND female he created us. Let’s all share in some humility in accepting that.
Inquistiter: Humility is accepting that God created us in his own image. That tells us something about our worth as human beings. Otherwise, we are all just an accidental byproduct of a random big bang or whatever.
Shikamoo, I don’t mean to be intransigent, but I really don’t get that. How does thinking that we are a special creation of a superbeing more humble than thinking we are just the result of mindless natural processes?
The former implies that we are much more important in the grand scheme of things than the latter. Just look at the size of the universe and how much of it doesn’t have anything to do with us. Do you really think the billions of galaxies are less important than this tiny rock?

Calvin was put on this earth to create mischief and as a punishment to his parents. Hobbes was put on this earth to aid and abet.
