At my local theater, Romeo climbed up the balcony, misstepped, and fell into the darkness. Juliet screamed and said the immortal words, “Is there a doctor in the house.” Yes, this really happened. The actor was bruised but okay and finished his performance.
The company from which I’m retired has a large engineering research facility and in the parking area directly in front of the building there are several signs that say “Medical Doctors Only”. Otherwise there would never be a place to park.
The sentence “It was their first night out together in months” could have been written at any time during these past twenty-one pandemic plagued months. Get him a Christmas present for goodness sakes—maybe one of those little toy doctor kits.

He (the Anderson alumnus) is a doofus. Not that kind of doctor. How is a Ph.D. supposed to cure someone sick?

Reminds me of a commercial I saw recently:
“Are you a doctor?”“No, but I’ve watched a lot of medical dramas on Sling TV.”

I think that must’ve been an honorary degree.

I don’t get the “gift” part. Why won’t she get him a gift this Christmas because of what he said?

A doctorate is all about ego. At least on TV and in comics.

When I was in college I knew a Presbyterian Pastor who told our group that that is something someone from Anderson College would say.

“Why, yes…I’m a doctor.”
“Ehhh…what’s up, doc?”
