I thought that it meant that after you lose, you scratch it off your list of ways of wasting money…
And, naturally, when you see you’re a loser, you punctuate that fact by littering the ground.
Because you need to raise the scratch to buy a scratch off.

So, just curious, does this depiction of tossing the losing ticket on the ground/littering, represent the attitudes/habits of the authors or was it simply oversight? I mean, how hard would it have been to draw a trashcan for him to toss it in.
I thought was from scratching you head wondering why you bought a ticket.
