After she grew up, Red Riding Hood no longer went through the woods and over the river to grandma’s house, and she no longer wore that childish red hood, but every once in a while, as she walked sensibly along the beaten path through the field, she would pause and mourn for the lost days of her youth.

/// Overnight in the farmers’ north field

came a pattern that sunrise revealed.

    Many “rings” that were bare

    (the crops no longer there),

like a guide to some treasure concealed.

/// People followed the crop circle trail.

(Might it lead to an alien grail?)

They’d gone twice round each ring

    without finding a thing,

then stopped short when they heard the cows wail.

/// Today’s task made the farmer’s wife numb.

On her left, fuel to burn

    Dinner time

    https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Edmund_Blair_Leighton_-_Dinner_time.jpg

has info and links that point to more info about this roughly B4 paper size painting.

A slightly larger strip image is shown by (⌘- or Ctrl-) clicking the image at

    http://thatispriceless.blogspot.com/2015/07/masterpiece-1262.html

I have added a comment there pointing to the blog entry with the artist info I used to point to here. So far 42 works, by this artist, have been used here (47 times total, including this Throwback Thursday and 4 other repeats).

    https://www.gocomics.com/that-is-priceless/2015/07/23?comments=visible

has the first time this was used here (the 15 hyperlinks in my comment there have been deactivated, and the line breaks removed, but perhaps the text remains informative). Forgot to mention the painting is oil on panel there.

/// “Dinner Time” once again. Ma’s forlorn.

It is hard, at this time, not to mourn

    for the terrible price,

    their supreme sacrifice—

feeding children to things in the corn.

The reason that Ma is forlorn

Has nothing to do with corn.

    Her son has enlisted

    (He simply insisted)

And both daughters are doing porn.
