I knew a teacher who retired from a Detroit Public school with a student named, Le-A. When the mother registered her for class, the staff was wondering whether it was Lee Ah or Lay Ah. The mother indignantly said, “It’s LeDashAh, the dash ain’t silent!”. That is a true story.

What happened to the good ol’ days when Black people gave their kids African names like Stephen (Biko), Nelson (Mandela), Winnie (Mandela), Rebecca (Enochong), Paul (Kagame), Desmond (Tutu), Oliver (Tambo), Walter Sisulu, Jennifer (Riria), etc.

Man (or should that be person in these ridiculous pc/cancel times. Except that the last 3 letters of person denote the male sex), in reality there are some weird names out there these days, for people and cars. They look like the left over scrabble letters at times
