Wow! Just because favorite shows may be in B&W doesn’t mean all Pluggers only have old sets! I know many younger people enjoying the “old” shows on retro channels many of those with the B&W episodes!
First wireless remotes can out in late 1950’s. the pictured tv is not THAT old and for sure is a color tv.
More like a Plugger can watch all their favorite Black & White movies as well as their favorite Silent movies on their 8K H-D color flat screen TV with theater surround sound.
I had to move up to a modern TV when vacuum tubes were no longer available.
It’s amazing how many commenters focused on the tube and not the concept. Pluggers’ favorite movies are often the ‘oldies’ that came in black and white (although some have since be colorized), e.g., “It’s a Wonderful Life”, “The Philadelphia Story,” “Casablanca,” “To Kill a Mockingbird,” “Psycho.” And a lot of pluggers’ kids enjoy them as well.
We had an old black and white TV when I was a kid. Ordered a plastic thingy in the mail that attached to the screen by static electricity and it made it look like a color picture.
It’s the content and photography that matters. The Technicolor used in The Adventures of Robin Hood is wonderful but the movie is also good when viewed in black & white. A colorized version of Casablanca just ain’t makin’ it.
Sorry, but Lord of the Rings, The Wizard of Oz, and Mary Poppins just aren’t the same in B&W. On the other hand, Twilight Zone, and the Outer limits were enhanced by the B&W format.

Huh, Sears haven’t sold a black and white set for 32 years, though you can still get one if you really want to.
I don’t actually know why you’d want to of your own free will.

Didn’t they change the format of broadcast TV signals such that old sets can’t receive them anymore?

An older TV like that would not have a wireless remote.

If memory serves, a black & white TV would run on vacuum tubes, which would have failed decades ago, and be unavailable today.
