Frozen grapes are delicious. I’d honestly rather have those than candy.

Sell the customer what he wants, not what you want to sell him.

This is a problem with much of our entertainment industry — television, movies, books, stage. Too often they want to “send a message” rather than create a good story that the audience wants to see..

There is a Hollywood anecdote, attributed to various producers, directors and actors. It basically goes that someone — a writer, director, etc. — says the picture will convey a message. The response is something like “If you want to send a message, call Western Union.”

So just sell the kids the candy, Wanda. Let their parents “send the message.”

I know it’s a common business model, especially for people working on commission, but you’re supposed to sell the customer what he wants, not what you want to sell him.
