In 1966, cigarettes were $2.00 a carton at a military BX and PX. I was a college student with a dependent’s ID and didn’t smoke but my Aunt asked me to buy her cigarettes if I visited a PX. Since the closest PX was 60 miles from my college, it didn’t happen often.

I remember 2 dollars would fill up your tank…..and they checked the oil, aired the tires, washed the windshield.

Since I’m black, I don’t miss the 1950’s and 1960’s. I definitely don’t want to relive them. I barely survived them the first time.
