Ralph is wrong. The “g” in “lasagna” is not useless.
There’s a definite difference between how “lasagna” is pronounced (with the nasalized “n”) and how “lasana” would be pronounced. It’s the same distinction as the one in Spanish between the letter “ñ” with the tilde and “n” without the tilde.
Now, if he’d said that Monday is as useless as pedantry in the comic strip comments…
