I was talking to a customer on the phone the other day. No matter what I said I couldn’t make them happy. At the end of the conversation, they said, “Thanks for nothing.” and so I responded with, “You’re welcome.”
When I worked retail the store manager told us to not bug him unless a customer’s demand to see him was a matter that really required his attention. I quickly discovered only 1 in 10 demands to see the manager were actually worth getting the manager. It was mostly an ego trip for the complainer.
I love all the sales associates I meet in person, or on the phone. They are helping me!!! What more could I want? Even if the results aren’t what I was hoping for, it wasn’t their fault. It was just what happened. I always thank them and tell them they do a fantastic job. Why not be happy? Cranky is so highly overrated, and I dislike dealing with cranky people myself, so I won’t inflict that on anyone.

Had an argumentative manager. Lady at the counter demanded to speak to the manager. I thought, “You’ll wish you had just let me take care of it.”
