As a reader I would find Danae’s expedition very enjoyable. Reading it as her teacher I would give her an A for inventiveness and her writing skills, but definitely not an A for meeting the terms of the assignment. Afterward I would have her entertain the class with a reading. Another A, if she showed the flair she has developed in thinking up unique events.

The alternative would have been to hand in a blank piece of paper

Kids should enjoy watching turtles and frogs in the wild while they can. Such little water-based animals might not be so common in the future.

Something tells me Danae’s reputation among her teachers precedes her, and not in a good way.

Imagine that she experienced all that - she has.

It will be a good screenplay if she rescues someone from the jaws of T rex

Maybe Jeffrey’s brother, Jack, binked Danae’s nose before she and Lucy went to Whatchacallit Woods.

Is it just me, or does that giant forest octopus have a scorpion stinger on the end of its tentacle?

Almost as dangerous as the Black Flies so common in Maine…

Based on a true story, only the facts have been changed to protect the investors.

As with books made into movies, there will be a disclaimer that Danae’s movie is “based” on her summer vacation.

Second and third frame: been there, done that. Pretty accurate response and resulting facial expression :D

Wiley loves to draw dinosaurs. I like that.

Funny considering Wiley’s previous cartoon about movie directors ruining the author’s story.

Looks like she has been channeling Calvin’s Sunday adventures. Cool beans!

You do realize, of course, that horses can’t be housebroken and produce something like 15 pounds of manure a day, as well as several gallons of pee.

Lucy grew up to work as a freelance political speech writer, for whatever party was offering the most $$ at the moment.

Good to see that homework is working so well. Danae may just make it, too.

Lordy, I wish I’d been able to embellish like that when I was a kid.

The entry for this comic strip at Wikipedia reminds us that the relationship between Danae and Lucy is similar to that between Calvin and Hobbes.

If that sort of stuff does not happen during your childhood, you had a boring summer.
