Dana is right. This is one of the creepiest creatures that Rita has befriended since I can remember. Rita really has a gift for becoming friends with mysterious beings and it’s amazing how she seems unable to be scared.
For those who didn’t get the reference, it’s the golden monkey from HIS DARK MATERIALS. The story concerns multiple worlds, and in one of them, every person’s soul takes the form of an animal ‘companion.’ Those of children change form freely, but when maturity comes, they settle into one permanent form. Most of them have their own names, and they speak. This one, the monkey, belongs to the character of Mrs. Coulter, and neither speaks nor has a name, and is pretty creepy. Mrs. Coulter is not too far sometimes from being like Rita.

It appears to be a golden snub-nosed monkey (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_snub-nosed_monkey), but I’ve no idea why it’s there.

We know that not everyone will get every reference. If too many don’t get it by later today, it shall be revealed.
