They sure do like their coffee. While Blaze and Lee are heading for a chat at the coffee shop, Lizz has a coffee cup in her hand. I don’t know what they’d do without coffee.
the longing look on Blaze’s face in panel one conveys to me that she’s hopeful that Lee will take her up on her offer… and the smile on Lee’s face in panel three tells me that perhaps Lee and Blaze ARE on the same page, if you get my meaning… if so, then good for them… if NOT, then I’m reading too much in those panels… either way, expressive faces in today’s installment… well done, Shell…
Not sure where Lee is looking in panel 2. The second word balloon in that panel implies that it’s at her dapperly-dressed companion, but the placement of the mirror makes it seem as if Blaze is standing behind her. Confusing, really.
I’m sorry, but….at the end of the mr crime story, blaze ended up getting a substantial amount of money from Davey mylar and then skipped town….and unless it “happened off panel” I dont believe that she was ever found OR apprehended/incarcerated/reformed at any point…..and youd THINK something like that would have been mentioned “on panel”
Why is it when a guy come into the strip to talk to Tracy or Sam, they can be friendly but if a woman comes in to talk to Liz, they’re suddenly lesbian lovers? Women can have friends of the same sex, too.
1-BLAZE: …I could go for a cuppa Joe, Mud, Java. Coffee even.
2-LEE: Fantastic! You buyin? BLAZE: Would that make this a date? LEE: I don’t know. I haven’t been on one in years. I think maybe.
3-LEE: We’re going to get coffee, Lizzo. LIZZ: OH! BUTCH…
LEE: LIZZ! THAT’S RUDE!!! LIZZ: ? You didn’t let me finish! Butch WAX! My Dad used Butch Wax in the early 60’s to make his Flattop stand up like Blaze’s.
LEE: (trying to recover) Uhhhh… Of course! I meant it was rude of you to compare Blaze to your fat, ugly Old Man!
LIZZ: sniff. We lost him two days before Thanksgiving. blubber, CRY!!!!
LEE:OH FFS! You want us to bring you back anything, Lee?
LEE: Huh? Oh. Sure. A Carmel Macchiato,low-cal whip and two cream filled Bavarians – CRÈAM, NOT CUSTARD!
A strip that can be interpreted a dozen different ways,11 of them wrong.Which was probably Mike’s intention.
There were early hints that Blaze was a dominatrix. We’ll never see that, but there’s an awful lot of women who would like to see Art Dekko horsewhipped.
With the introduction Blaze Rize, I am sure Mike will connect the dots regarding the reapparance of Art Dekko along with the trip Tracy and Sam took to Locher Auditorium. Does Blaze now collect art work in her spare time? Will there be any characters getting shot on the account of the fake animation cel art?
Uh-oh. The coffee shop right around the corner from MCU HQ surely has better brew than the department pot that stands around all day (or until someone is stirred to dump it and make a fresh pot). But Lee’s panel 3 words seem so filled with overtones and ominous!
What’s in store besides coffee? Is Blaze Rise simply renewing this old acquaintance, or is this a set-up? Or is something entirely different next up?

The third panel makes it much clearer than it was yesterday that Blaze has two X chromosomes.

“I’ll be back soon, Lizz.”
If this were a horror movie, the character who spoke those lines would be guaranteed not to return.
Or is something going to happen to Lee? Is Blaze truly reformed?
