Boy, there’s a lot of truth in this. More and more businesses are having the consumer do what used to be employee work. Our long-time dentist converted from paper records to electronic. When my wife went in for a teeth cleaning, they handed her an iPad and instructed her to fill in all her contact information, insurance, etc., even though they already had that in their paper records. She handed it back and said she wasn’t going to be an unpaid data entry clerk. We changed dentists soon after that.
The 24 hour grocery stores where I live only have the self-checkout after midnight with one employee over seeing them. I hate them, so if forced to use one, I fumble around, dropping items on the floor, picking them up and putting them in a bag. I soon have the employee scanning the items and giving me instructions as to how to pay for them. Plus there is no discount or extra loyalty points for doing their work. I wonder what the ‘theft’ rate is in using this method.
“Attention WalMart shoppers! When you have finished checking yourself out at our handy self-checkouts you are directed to go to the back of the store and unload the semi-trailer that has the goods you will want on your next visit to the store.”

I talk back to the self-checkout “robot”. I notice that it really speeds up the people around me at the other self-checkout stations

Serve yourself is not the same as self-service, in my opinion. I do like the check myself out line though. At least when the computers work.

Seems fair. You have to pay to shop there.

Can’t believe he actually said a sentence with the word ‘work’ in it.

Don’t know about Costco, but I love shopping at Sam’s Club ’cause I just scan the stuff as I put it in the cart and check out on my way to the door.

Notice more self-checkout terminals seem to be out of cash to cash back..
