LOL – That’s why our friends put an end to gift giving. We found we were all exchanging the same gifts to one another year after year.

It’s not a bad thing. It’s a way to give yourself a guilt-free $50 spending spree (I know, small spree these days).

I prefer cash. I can spend cash anywhere, any time. I don’t like “script” that I can spend only in one place and may have an expiration date.

It’s sort of like the airlines giving you “cash” if you are willing to be bumped for cargo. It is worthless everywhere else and it expires.

We.. are going for straight cash this year. Gift cards require an assumption about loyalty branding. Cash.. accepted everywhere.

My sister and I stopped exchanging gifts long before she died, and I’m trying to get the girls to stop giving us things. If we don’t own a fill-in-the-blank by this time, I can live without it, or I had one and got rid of it. Youngest Daughter and her husband live in on the road in an RV and don’t have space for anything, and Eldest Daughter has more money than we’ll ever see, but she is thrilled to get gifts for her grandchildren. Middle Daughter seems to have moved to a desert island. My BFF and I buy each other sweatshirts with clever sayings and that’s it.

Gift cards: The present that says “I put as little care & thought into this as absolutely possible.”
