“Much of today’s ‘comedy club’ humor sounds more like people venting to their therapists over their pathetic lives. No catchy humor in that.”
Funny you should say that. I get the Denver comedy channel (103.1) when in the car and those people are not even funny. Not been hearing so many of the older better ones lately. I am forced to switch over to RW rant radio which can itself be entertaining. The audiences must be tipsy as they often laugh before the punch line comes up.
Hold on, was the Dollar Baby fact here a few months ago, or did I bring it up in a comment? It’s one of my favourite things about Stephen King, and it’s actually jump-started a few very successful careers.
Speaking of filmmaking, for those who are curious: filmmakers will get streets wet because dry asphalt looks a lot worse on camera, for a lot of optical reasons.
Lighting is probably better on streets being filmed at night if they are wet, due to the better reflection from the water. And in horror movies, it’s often storming and rainy during nighttime climax scenes.
Last night I came upon a comment from fgerbil46 and I asked him to repeat it here, today. It is quite a ways down in the reply’s of the featured comment. It starts thusly . . .

Little did they know, later on, even the first class titanic passengers had to share one huge bath tub along with the others known as the ocean…

Thanks for explaining the sidewalk thing. The Stephen King entry does sound familiar now that you mention it.

The Steven King comment doesn’t sound too benevolent to me, actually it seems self-serving.

…so why are movie streets always wet? On purpose? Or serendipitty?
ekke almost 2 years ago
Probably because wet streets darken the pavement, increasing contrast.

With all the strenuous action on a street film set, it’s only natural that they would be wet from all that perspiration. Phew! ;-p

Just a thought,
When I hold the door open for a lady about 90% of them are appreciative.
But when I hold the trunk open and try to get them in they run and scream “POLICE”.

The wet streets in movies AND on TV, have always made me wonder WHY? What’s the point of making them wet? It’s a rhetorical question.
