I stopped at a roadside table once on Long Island and the people there were selling home-made salsa. It was very good. Of course, they recently moved up from New Mexico.
I used to use Old Southern taco sauce as a base for my Mexican sauces and salsas. It was great because I could tailor the dish to my guests. Some liked mild; some liked super spicy. Then it disappeared and I haven’t found a decent substitute. Especially since the cilantro craze came in (allergy issues). Sure, I can dump out a store-bought salsa to serve with chips, but it was more fun (and tastier) to start with a bland base and build my own.
I bought some local salsa in Anthony NM a few years ago and it was great. I tried to buy some online and they told me they were not permitted to ship into Canada. Some Canadian government garbage I imagine. heading to Fla next week. They DO ship to Pensacola.

Pace Foods, a division of Campbell Soup. But the salsa comes from Texas. IIRC Pace once had an advertising campaign that making fun of salsa from NY.
